Mikhail Kholodniak's Scientific Visit to the University of Twente
Our group member, PhD student Mikhail Kholodniak, recently completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, supported by the Open Network for Discrete Element Modelling (ON-DEM) COST Action.

During his visit, Mikhail collaborated with Dr. Hongyang Cheng, head of the Soil MicroMechanics Group, on the development and application of coupled Finite Element Method–Discrete Element Method (FEM-DEM) approaches for seismic wave simulations.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to exchange scientific ideas with members of the Soil MicroMechanics Group and discuss various applications of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) in soil mechanics. As part of the scientific exchange, Mikhail also delivered his first seminar to faculty members, presenting his research and engaging in discussions with colleagues.
This scientific mission was an important opportunity for Mikhail to expand his research experience, explore new computational approaches, and strengthen international connections in the field of computational mechanics.
We congratulate Mikhail on this successful scientific visit and sincerely thank Dr. Hongyang Cheng for his hospitality and valuable collaboration, Dr. Igor Ostanin for his assistance in organizing the seminar, and the ON-DEM COST Action for supporting this research exchange.
We look forward to seeing the results of this collaboration and further developments in Mikhail's research!
